Being born in Alabama, I grew up with the Civil Rights Movement. Mandated public school integration was very much a part of my early years, and I think I’m a better person for it. But that being said, I grew up with, not in, the movement. Because I was born white, and only witnessed that kind of poverty and prejudice from a distance. Most the major events; like the Birmingham riots, the church bombing, and Selma march were ever so slightly before my time. So when finding myself in the state at the annual Selma March reenactment, I couldn’t miss out. It was well worth my time to see people of all ages and races united to bring recognition to one simple truth… Our vote is our voice.
This link will take you to some of the images that I captured.
